Odilon provides activities, submits each answer to automated correction, and offers constructive feedback. Odilon is also linked to an online record that tracks and stores all of a student's visits to the website, as well as the grade earned for each activity. This record is accessible to the student as well as the instructor, who may use the results earned for the final transcript.

Who may register as an instructor?

An instructor who makes the use of the textbook published by Chenelière Éducation inc. mandatory in his or her course has the right to register with Odilon for the course group in question. However, this registration does not entitle the instructor to register a course group in another subject for which the use of the textbook published by Chenelière Éducation inc. is not mandatory.

How do students benefit from Odilon activities?

Odilon offers different types of activities for each unit in your textbook.

The workshops consist of a range of questions that check your understanding of a subject. You may complete these workshops using your textbook. Each workshop begins with a brief contextualization and usually indicates the corresponding pages in your textbook.

The tests are workshops to which the instructor can grant students access at the time of his or her choosing. Students can't access these workshops on their own.

The interactive crossword puzzles cover the contents of each textbook unit and can be completed on screen. The whole puzzle must be completed before Odilon can award you a successful score. It must also be error-free. For more information, refer to the HELP and ERROR tabs featured with selected crossword puzzles.

The printable crossword puzzles are PDF documents containing the interactive crossword puzzles. Their practical print format lets students complete the puzzles in class or anywhere else, such as on the bus home from school.

Where are my grades saved?

The My Odilon tab provides this information. It supplies the details of each grade earned in Odilon activities.

My Odilon also provides a history of your visits to the website: the dates and times you logged on, as well as the pages you consulted.

My Odilon lets you edit your profile and register in new Odilon courses at any time.

How can my instructor view my grades?

When setting up your online account, Odilon asks you to provide the name of your institution. This information enables your instructor to consult your Odilon record. Make sure you enter this information so your instructor may track your progress throughout the duration of the course.

Your instructor, however, is required to register as an Odilon instructor him- or herself. Let him or her know that you have registered and that you would like your work to count in your final assessment.

Which grades are saved?

Students can redo an activity as often as they wish. They are assigned a grade and provided with a comprehensive correction each time.

Odilon's system, however, defaults to recording only the first grade earned. This way, instructors can be certain students performed the activity without knowing the questions or answers beforehand. Therefore, even if a student completes a given workshop several times, the first grade scored always remains. Instructors may edit this default procedure.

They can select other options for saving grades: for each Odilon activity, they may choose to save the best grade or all grades earned by the student. The option to save all grades is interesting, as it allows instructors to monitor their students' progress.

Click on My Odilon and go to the Your Odilon Options section. Click on Grades saved in student records, and choose which grade to save in your students' records.

Do these grades really count?

The grades assigned on completion of Odilon activities are the result of a thorough, computerized correction process. Each result is calculated out of 100 and is saved in your online record. It is up to your instructor to decide whether these grades will be used in your evaluation record. Some instructors use them for educational purposes, meaning they check whether an activity was satisfactorily completed, when it was performed, and how much time it took. Others use it for summary purposes, attributing a part of the overall evaluation to the grades earned in Odilon activities.

Contact your instructor for further information.

Is the information used to create a student account confidential?

To create a student account and access Odilon activities, you must provide personal information.

This information is required to enable your instructor to locate your online record. Do not give out your username or password or share them with other students. Your student record can only be accessed by you and your instructor, and the information it contains should be for your personal use only.

All student records are deleted at the end of each term. Odilon does not retain any information.

I cannot access my student account. What should I do?

Odilon Customer Service is always available to answer your questions and help you navigate the Odilon website at all times. You can click on the Contact tab and use the online form. If you would like to contact Odilon Customer Service by telephone, call 1-800-565-5531, ext. 2147.

How do the crossword puzzles work?

The interactive crossword puzzles provides a stimulating activity that involves the review of specific textbook units. Navigating the puzzles is plain and simple. For a puzzle to be considered complete, all squares must be filled in, and it must be absolutely error-free.

Depending on the type of crossword puzzle, the squares containing incorrect letters are displayed either in grey or red. Some puzzles offer an ERROR tab option, which lets you know which letters are incorrect.

The crossword puzzles can be completed quickly by consulting your textbook. When selected crossword puzzles have been completed with all the correct answers, an image displaying a verification number appears in the upper left-hand corner of the puzzle. Enter this number in the corresponding box and send off your form. Other puzzles don't require you to enter a verification number. When your puzzle is completed with all the correct answers, click on the "Verify" button. Regardless of the type of puzzle, once you have completed it successfully, you will be awarded a passing score, and your instructor will be notified of your success right away.

The interactive crossword puzzles require a small software program that is usually already installed on your computer. If you are unable to view the puzzle, click on the link in the upper right-hand corner featured on every crossword puzzle page. It will take you to the website, where the free software can be downloaded.

How do instructors benefit from Odilon?

Odilon offers a substantial range of proven activities to guide students' learning, whether in the computer laboratory or at home. Instructors needn't devote time to the preparation of practice activities or marking. Developed by experienced instructors and writers, Odilon's many interactive activities serve to check the achievement levels in your course.

How can I view my students' grades?

Ask your students to set up their own student accounts using your course group number. This very simple operation will only take them a moment.

Based on the name of your institution, the title of your textbook, and your course group number, Odilon will automatically establish a link between you and your students. You must individually validate each student registration in each of your course groups. This will allow you to view the grades they obtain in the various Odilon activities over the course of the term.

How can instructors activate the tests?

For each unit in the textbook, Odilon offers certain activities, also referred to as "tests," that students can't access until you change the status of these activities. While the workshops can be performed at any time with or without the textbook, the tests are intended to check whether the information in a unit has been effectively absorbed and retained. As the only person with access privileges, you can decide when and under what conditions to activate these tests. This ensures students can't prepare for the questions.

Your control over these workshops allows you to use them as evaluation tools (mini-exams, tests, assessments, etc.) on the date and at the time of your choice. This gives students the flexibility to perform the activities in class, in the laboratory, at home or anywhere else.

Click on the My Odilon tab to activate the tests for each unit and to manage access to them for each of your groups. Go to the Your tests section. Click on the title of your course group. To grant your students access, you must activate a time frame. To do this, click on the grey button on the right, which will take you to the next screen. Click on the "Active Status" option and select the desired date and time your students can access the workshop. Click on Edit to save your changes. You will see the Active indicator as well as the scheduled time display, and the pink button will have changed to red.
